An exciting s opportunity has arisen for a TherapyAssistant Practitioner to work within the therapy department within themusculoskeletal teams. Working alongside registered physiotherapists to providepatients with increased access to therapy services, ongoing exercise supportwith the professional physiotherapy oversight.

The Therapy Assistant Practitioner role involves workingin a range of environments including the therapy gym-running groups and 1:1rehabilitation sessions, physiotherapy clinics and community orthopaedic homevisits.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate aparticular interest in these areas, as well as excellent communication andorganisational skills. We provide a structured supervision program, includingclinical support and regular in-service training. Main duties of the job

Assist qualified therapists (Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists) in the delivery of services working without direct supervision in outpatient and community settings, undertaking exercise sessions and specific patient plans and tasks delegated by therapists.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL:

To work without direct supervision, but under direction of the qualifiedtherapy staff in the performance of specific tasks for an individual or a groupof patients as part of their treatment and rehabilitation programme. Duties mayinclude:

* Implementation of exercise programme delegated by qualified Therapystaff.
* Assessment and review of patients undertaking exercise programmes andcommunication back to referring practitioner.
* Ongoing and advice and guidance to patients regarding physical activityand health promotion.
* Carrying own case load of non-complex patients.

To undertake delegated duties without access to directsupervision.

To be involved in the training, development andsupervision needs of assistants in therapy services.

To update patient records in a concise, accurate andtimely manner in line with ECCH and service policies.

To be aware at all times of needs of patient duringillness and disability and to promote and encourage independence andrestoration of function.

To communicate effectively and efficiently with thephysiotherapist and other members of the multi-professional team regardingchanges in patient's condition and any other useful information.

To communicate efficiently and effectively withpatients and carers to maximize the rehabilitation potential and to ensureunderstanding of condition.

To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent andhave the ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack thecapacity to consent to treatment.

To maintain a portfolio evidencing ongoing competencyand development for this role.

CLERICAL AND HOUSEKEEPING:

To undertake any clerical duties as necessary. These may include:

* Registration of patients.
* Making appointments.
* Filing.
* Dealing with telephone calls.
* Communicating effectively with patient carers, GP surgeries and otherhospital staff.
* Writing discharge letters and reports.

Maintaining stock levels and ordering equipment.

Cleaning of equipment.

Preparation and tidying up of treatment areas.

To provide induction for the department for studentsand other non-clinical staff.

ORGANISATIONAL:

To attend organised training sessions includingstatutory / mandatory training and any other in-service training organised bythe therapy teams appropriate to role.

To attend local team and staff meetings

To comply with the trust and service policies andprocedures.

To be aware of the health and safety aspects of yourwork including recording and documentation of incidents and accidents.

To participate in the appraisal system and performancedevelopment plan.

Any other duties which may be considered appropriateby the qualified therapy staff and the professional therapy leads.

Skills and Knowledge

* Knowledge of basic musculoskeletal anatomy.
* Knowledge of basic mobility function.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to deal with older people.

Qualifications

* English Language at O Level / GCSE.
* NVQ / exercise level 3 or equivalent in a relevant area


Experience

* Previous experience as a Therapy Assistant or exercise trainer

* Knowledge of basic mobility function.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to deal with older people.
