Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a motivated, highly enthusiastic Senior or Intermediate Clinical Coder to join our clinical coding team. We are able to offer 37.5 hours per week working over 5 days (Mon to Friday, part time hours would be considered). Flexible working is available, and homeworking is on a rotational basis for Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders. You will be expected to maintain your clinical coding skills and knowledge. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in other coding roles such as audit, training, and mentoring. Willingness to learn and embrace new experiences is essential.


About Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of community services. The Trust has state‑of‑the‑art facilities including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, Integrated Assessment Unit and a new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre opened in March 2023.


Position Details

For the Senior Clinical Coder position (Band 5 + 30 % R&R Premium) the successful candidate must have passed the NCCQ examination. For the Intermediate Clinical Coder position (Band 4) we consider candidates wanting to take or awaiting the NCCQ examination, or those with significant recent experience within an acute NHS trust coding department.


Qualifications

* Pass NCCQ examination (for Senior role) or be eligible to sit for NCCQ.
* Extensive understanding of ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 and thorough knowledge of national coding standards and conventions.
* Completion of the NHS Digital approved standard/foundation course.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with junior coders, auditors, and clinicians.
* Willingness to learn and embrace new experiences.


Benefits

Full time: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Flexible and rotational homeworking for Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders. Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders receive a 30 % R&R Premium. Training and development opportunities including audit, training, and mentoring roles are available.
