Role Title: Infrastructure Support Engineer
Duration: contract to run until 26/06/2026
Location: Wokingham, Hybrid 50% onsite
Rate: up to £276 p/d Umbrella inside IR35
Clearance required: Active SC Clearance
Role purpose / summary
Main Responsibility: To be available to oversee access of supplier teams into the control centre to do various manual pieces of work (e.g. like relaying cables or patching cables etc). Remote work is possible, but candidates must be ready to travel into client site when asked for (including after hours).
Key Skills/ requirements
Access Coordination & Site Support:
1. Oversee and manage physical access of supplier teams into control centres
2. Ensure supplier activities (e.g. cable relaying, patching) are conducted according to site protocols
3. Maintain accurate logs of access, work performed, and any incidents or deviations
4. Act as liaison between client teams and suppliers to coordinate schedules and resolve access-related issues
5. Respond to urgent access requests, including after-hours site visits when necessary
6. Uphold safety, security, and compliance standards during all on-site activities
Infrastructure Support & Maintenance:
7. Monitor and maintain physical and virtual infrastructure systems (servers, networks, storage)
8. Perform routine checks, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on hardware and systems
9. Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related incidents and service requests
10. Support installation, configuration, and upgrades of hardware and software components
11. Maintain documentation of infrastructure assets, configurations, and procedures
12. Collaborate with IT teams to ensure system availability, performance, and scalability
13. Assist in disaster recovery planning and execution
14. Ensure compliance with IT policies, standards, and security protocols
15. Participate in infrastructure projects, migrations, and rollouts as needed
Required Skills
16. Strong organizational and administrative skills
17. Familiarity with physical infrastructure environments (e.g. cabling, patch panels, server rooms)
18. Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs)
19. Experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments
20. Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V)
21. Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS) is a plus
22. Excellent communication and coordination abilities
23. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
24. Willingness and flexibility to travel to client sites, including outside standard working hours
25. Prior experience in infrastructure support, systems administration, or IT operations
Desirable Attributes
26. Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar
27. Experience working with third-party suppliers or contractors
28. Commitment to safety, procedural compliance, and operational excellence
29. Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
30. Calm under pressure and responsive to urgent operational needs
31. Familiarity with ITIL practices and service management tools.
