Milk Education is offering an exciting opportunity for compassionate and resilient individuals to join an Alternative Provision and Specialist SEN school in Godalming as a SEN Learning Assistant (LSA). This role is ideal for those looking to build a career in Education, Social Care, Speech & Language Therapy, or Child Psychology while working closely with children with additional learning needs.
About the Role:
This position focuses on supporting pupils aged 5–16 with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social and emotional challenges, and physical care requirements. You will work in small, supportive classes to help pupils develop independence, resilience, and confidence in their learning.
You will:
* Support Learning & Development: Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons tailored to pupils’ individual needs.
* Encourage Independence: Provide encouragement, reassurance, and comfort while promoting self-reliance.
* Ensure Wellbeing: Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
* Provide Personal Care: Assist with personal or medical routines where required, always maintaining dignity and respect.
* Collaborate with Staff & Families: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure holistic support for each child.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out routine tasks to help organise and maintain the learning environment.
* Report safeguarding concerns, behavioural incidents, or health and safety issues in line with school policies.
* Participate in the supervision of pupils during break and lunchtimes.
* Act as a positive role model and advocate for pupils with special educational needs.
* Contribute to planning sessions and adapt strategies to support progress and wellbeing.
What We’re Looking For:
* Background or Interest: Experience in SEN support, childcare, health & social care, or education is beneficial (graduates in Psychology, Criminology, SEN, or Youth Work are encouraged to apply).
* Empathy & Patience: A calm, supportive, and proactive approach to working with children.
