We are looking for a self-motivated, passionate, and proactive Water Site SCADA Systems Engineer to join our Operational Technology (OT) team. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily maintenance and fault-finding of Site SCADA systems (including AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware, Iconics, and RSView) for critical water treatment works, reservoirs, and booster stations across your region.

What you’ll do as a Site SCADA Systems Engineer (Water)
SCADA System Support
1. Maintain high availability of site-based SCADA platforms (targeting 99.2% uptime or higher).
2. Deliver essential planned maintenance, including health checks, patches, and hotfixes.
3. Implement and test disaster recovery plans and complete annual “data of last resort” backups.
4. Deliver Site SCADA system updates and upgrades, ensuring programmable OT/ICA assets are maintained and current.
5. Respond to SCADA-related service requests (TAPS) within 15 working days.
6. Implement and maintain security improvements to enhance site OT system resilience.
Emergency & Out-of-Hours Coverage
7. Participate in the in-hours and out-of-hours support roster for SCADA fault response.
8. Provide emergency technical support and fault rectification to operations teams.
9. Proactively use the OT fault database to optimise service delivery and reduce repeat incidents.
10. Escalate recurring faults for investigation, root cause analysis, and mitigation planning.
Project & Change Support
11. Champion the OT Change Management and Risk Assessment process to ensure minimal operational impact.
12. Provide technical input during the design and delivery stages of Capital Delivery projects.
13. Ensure all OT system changes are controlled, documented, and authorised.
14. Supply SCADA asset, alarm, and event data reports to support operations and compliance.
15. Identify and manage key local OT stakeholders to maintain alignment and effective delivery.
Technical Collaboration & Mentoring
16. Act as a subject matter expert for Site SCADA systems and operational technology architecture in your area.
17. Provide mentoring, technical support, and guidance to ICA Technicians and local operational teams.
18. Foster collaboration within the wider OT Service & Technical team to deliver consistent, high-quality support.
Base location – Hybrid – Thames Valley-based offices and operational water sites
Working pattern – 36 hours Monday to Friday, with participation in an on-call rota
What you should bring to the role
Essential Experience
19. Experience in the maintenance and/or delivery of SCADA or ICA systems.
20. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with operations teams.
21. Strong customer service orientation with effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
22. Proven problem-solving skills, balancing technical, operational, and customer-focused decision-making.
Essential Technical Skills & Qualifications
23. Recognised technical qualification in OT, ICA, or SCADA systems.
24. Hands-on expertise in site-based SCADA and PLC systems, with up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices.
25. Proficiency in AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware and legacy SCADA systems such as Iconics and RSView.
26. Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Excel for data analysis and reporting.
27. Knowledge of extended SCADA programming, MS applications, and IP-based communications (LAN/WLAN).
Desirable Experience
28. Experience managing competing priorities and delivering both reactive and project-based work.
29. Knowledge or prior experience in the water industry, utilities, or a similar regulated sector.
30. Experience negotiating with Operations to secure funding for OT hardware (e.g. servers, switches, UPS systems).
Desirable Technical Skills & Qualifications
31. Technical problem-solving and fault resolution expertise.
32. Understanding of basic LAN network design and troubleshooting principles.
33. Awareness of network redundancy and resilience concepts such as VLANs, subnets, and redundancy protocols.
