Job Summary
To assist in the provision of the Medical Equipment Library service, under supervision of the Team Leader and Higher Clinical Support Worker inclusive of weekend working.
To work towards achieving recorded competencies and Btec Diploma, Level 2 Healthcare Science - leading to progression to Band 3 Higher Clinical Support Worker.
Supports all Clinical Engineering Departmental objectives and medical device service requirements through active locating and collection of devices for PPM.
Main duties of the job
* Based in the Medical Equipment Library.
* Ensures Medical Equipment Library facilities are kept clear and well-ordered and equipment storage areas are kept in a tidy condition.
* Delivers equipment to ward areas to fulfil loan requests.
* Assist hospital staff visiting the Medical Equipment Library to borrow equipment.
* Keeps records of equipment loans.
* Collects equipment from ward areas at end of loan period.
* Commission onto the asset register and Electrical Safety Tests Medical Devices as trained and deemed competent to do so.
* Cleans returned equipment, reporting excessive or high-risk contamination to the Team Leader within Medical Equipment Library and Clinical Engineering depending on need.
* Checks condition of equipment, reporting any damage to the Team Leader.
* Completes records of tests within Asset Register.
* Performs stock takes of Medical Equipment Library stock - ensuring Asset register is up to date and accurate.
* Ensures adequate stock of materials to enable Medical Equipment Library to function correctly.
* Operates a working pattern that encompasses weekend working as dictated by the Team Lead and Medical Device Safety Officer.
* Locates, collects and processes Medical Devices required for Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) in readiness for Clinical Engineering completion.
* Works towards achieving recorded competencies and potential for Btec Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science - subject to levy funding conditions.

Job Responsibilities
* Reads and follows written procedures for the issue and return of medical equipment within the Medical Equipment Library.
* Tests medical equipment to written procedures.
* Works safely when performing manual handling tasks.
* Is mindful of manual handling issues when storing equipment for loan.
* Works in a safe manner, reporting any Health and Safety issues outside of their control to the Team Leader or Head of Clinical Engineering.
Person Specification
Essential
* Knowledge & Experience: Demonstrable experience of working in a customer service environment; use of computerised works systems, including e‑learning, email and/or other similar software products.
* Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
* Aptitude & Abilities: Ability to work in a team; flexible manner; manoeuvre medium to heavy loads, which could be in excess of 25kg, in varying locations.
Desirable
* Working to ISO 9000 Quality System.
* Computer literate (ECDL or equivalent).
* Interest in technology.
