We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your Role
Do you want to make a difference to Wigan residents already in work but looking to improve their salaries, gain different roles or increase skills to move into better, more sustainable work? Due to increased demand, the In Work Progression team is looking for an additional advisor to join them.
Offering one-to-one support, plus specialist information on job opportunities and employment sectors, the In Work Progression Service enables residents, who are already in work and within a low‑income household, to progress into more skilled and/or better paid work and/or take steps towards stronger working lives.
About You
You will need to have experience of offering information, advice and/or guidance for adults looking for work or changing roles, preferably with adults though other areas will be considered. Though a Level 4 IAG qualification is ideal, other relevant qualifications and experience will be considered too depending on experience.
About the Team
Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE Awards. The In Work Progression Service sits within the Adult Learning and Skills Service, where everyone works together well and are committed and dedicated to offering the best to our residents.
This role gives you the chance to be part of a well‑established project which has developed across the borough. Though currently a short‑term role, if additional funding becomes available, this could potentially be extended.
Benefits and Working Conditions
We support flexible working patterns when the service can accommodate this and offer a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work you do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community.
As part of the Council, employees have access to exclusive rewards and benefits.
