An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our expanding patient-centred and supportive ENT department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting time to join us, with opportunities to support inpatient and outpatient transformation as part of a blended workforce developing inpatient and outpatient pathways.
Our ENT service has a small team of 5 consultants, two specialty doctors, two specialty trainees, and 6 junior doctors. This role involves delivering face-to-face onsite clinical sessions or within a community-based environment, assessing and managing a range of ENT conditions, educating patients and their families on conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care, and staying current with advancements in ENT treatments, technologies, and best practices.
This post offers the successful candidate excellent experience and training in ENT. You will be expected to provide outpatient services alongside other department members at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, perform benign head and neck diagnostic surgical procedures, routine ENT activities, and support the weekly Neck Lump Clinic with radiologists and fast-track patient sessions. You will supervise, undertake, and manage complications related to routine ENT and head and neck surgeries, attend Head and Neck MDT and Thyroid MDT meetings, contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorate, and provide a high-quality service to the local population, including emergency on-call duties.
The current on-call rota is approximately 1:5, including weekends, subject to review. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of around 1.6 million within the Lancashire and South Cumbria ICS, including Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, and surrounding areas, with services spanning acute, community, and specialist care.
Applicants must have full GMC registration or be working towards CESR or European Community Rights (confirmed by GMC by the AAC date), be on the GMC Specialist Register or working towards it, and hold an appropriate higher surgical qualification (FRCS or equivalent). NHS experience and broad clinical ENT experience with a subspecialty interest in Head & Neck are required.
