Key Responsibilities
* Undertake routine non‑invasive diagnostic clinical cardiac procedures e.g. 12‑lead ECG and fitting ambulatory ECG and BP monitors under supervision initially until signed as competent to carry out procedures safely.
* Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Echo service and Cardiac Physiologists, ensuring the highest level of confidentiality is maintained at all times.
* Perform under supervision non‑invasive cardiac clinical physiology procedures working to the standards set by the professional and local policies until competencies are met and in agreement with mentor and line manager, candidate is able to perform procedures un‑supervised.
* Undertake clinical procedures on adults and paediatrics, both within outpatient and inpatient settings: 12‑Lead ECG, Ambulatory BP monitoring hook‑up, Ambulatory ECG monitoring hook‑up including 7‑day and 14‑day monitors.
* Have an understanding of ECG interpretation, which will be developed during ongoing training and mentorship.
* Take appropriate action, according to departmental policies and procedures, when results and/or patient conditions are abnormal.
* Ensure that equipment is maintained in a safe and clean condition.
* Recognise equipment faults and take appropriate steps to report and correct following the departmental protocols.
* Utilise the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record systems, CRIS and Fusion.
* Answer telephone and other queries.
* Deal with clinical request forms as per departmental protocol.
* Assist the Technical Cardiology Service Manager in the implementation of policy/protocol changes within the department. Offer suggestions for changes to those that apply to the work area so that they may be discussed by the team at departmental meetings.
* Be alert for opportunities for service improvement.
* Obtain Cardiac Investigation results and bring forward urgent abnormal results to ensure that medical attention is sorted in a timely manner.
* Ensure all information and messages received from patients, colleagues and medical staff are communicated efficiently and correctly.
* Coordinate administration matters in the absence of the Department Support Manager, ensuring all duties are completed in an effective and efficient manner to maintain an optimum service at all times.
* Respond positively and promptly to enquiries and problems received from patients, medical staff and other agencies, using initiative to take appropriate action in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
