Overview
Wigan Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in schools is designed to help meet the mental health needs of children and young people in education settings. The Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role supports school staff to recognise and respond to emerging mental health difficulties and liaises with external specialist services to ensure appropriate support for children and young people in education.
Band 5 EMHP with regular clinical and case management supervision to support MHST core functions.
Responsibilities
* Deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems.
* Support the senior mental health lead in each education setting to develop or enhance a whole school/college approach to mental health.
* Provide timely advice to school and college staff and liaise with external services to ensure the right support and continuation in education.
* Under supervision, deliver whole-school mental health initiatives alongside young people, school staff, senior leads and parents.
* Provide 1:1 brief interventions for mild to moderate mental health problems, develop support plans, and discuss issues in clinical supervision as needed.
* Deliver low-level interventions including behavioural activation, CBT-informed worry and anxiety management, graded exposure, sleep and stress management, and behavioural experiments.

Person Specification
* Essential: Successful completion of an IAPT Education Mental Health Practitioner course.
* Desirable: Experience developing and delivering whole-school approaches to mental health.
* Essential: Experience delivering evidence-based mental health interventions including low-intensity CBT for CYP and parents.
* Desirable: Experience working within educational settings through consultation and training to increase staff mental health awareness.
* Essential: Understanding of psychological models of brief intervention.
* Desirable: Ongoing professional development in child and adolescent mental health.
