Are you looking for a new career opportunity that will both challenge and reward you at the same time? We have vacancies for Experienced or Newly qualified Band 5 Staff Nurses to develop as a nurse in acute medicine.

This position would be suited to an individual looking to gain experience in the acute setting. Eager to learn new skills in a thriving and supportive workplace, ensuring high quality care is given to our patient group while working with a dedicated team of staff who are devoted to improve the quality of care and enhance patient’s experience.

We are seeking highly motivated, flexible individuals with strong interpersonal skills that will look forward to the challenges of nursing patients who have a variety of acute medical problems. Ideally the post holder will have experience of working in an acute hospital setting and be able to demonstrate clinical knowledge in caring for acutely unwell patients. In return bespoke training opportunities will be tailored to your personal needs to enable your development into this challenging role.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating the personalised health and wellbeing care needs of patients, in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework goals example: personal hygiene and comfort, vital signs and EWS, early recognition and management of acutely ill patients, safe transportation, last offices, fluid balance monitoring, enteral feeding/ meeting nutritional needs, ECG, wound dressings, removal of sutures/clips, catheterisation, venepuncture, cannulation, blood transfusion, palliative and terminal care, care of central lines, admission and discharge, nasogastric tube insertion & care, care of epidural and IV infusion pumps, psychological and spiritual support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
2. Support and provide patient education and health promotion
3. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
4. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
5. Assist in setting, monitoring and maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
6. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
7. Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation
8. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
9. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
10. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
11. To participate in education and training of junior staff
12. Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice
13. Proactively engage with Trust wide or local changes and developments in nursing practice e.g intentional rounding, alcohol screening
14. Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager

Qualifications

Essential criteria

15. •Appropriate NMC registration
16. •Diploma in Nursing
17. •NMC recognised mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards 18 months commencement in post
18. •Evidence of continuing education or development

Essential criteria

20. •Willing to expand clinical role e.g. IV additives, venepuncture and cannulation
21. •Awareness of changes within Nursing practice
22. •Knowledge of clinical governance and the relevance to practice
23. •Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures

Desirable criteria

24. •Knowledge of ethical issues
25. •Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality e.g. surgery
26. •Knowledge of leadership and management
27. •Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs
28. •Research and development
