Refuge Worker

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday–Friday
Contract: Temporary, Full Time
Are you passionate about supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse?
We are seeking a Refuge Worker to provide high-quality, practical and emotional support to survivors living in our Southwark refuge. This is a vital role, offering safety, advocacy and empowerment to women and children at a critical time in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored emotional and practical support to survivors of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
* Conduct key work sessions with residents, developing and monitoring individual support and risk management plans.
* Welcome new residents, explain and arrange occupancy agreements, and ensure a proactive move-on strategy is in place.
* Assess risks and needs of survivors and their children, taking immediate safeguarding action where required.
* Support residents to access housing, welfare, benefits and legal advice, advocating on their behalf when necessary.
* Accompany women to appointments and ensure they are aware of their rights to legal protection.
* Collect and record rent payments accurately, ensuring vacant rooms are re-let promptly.
* Work closely with statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver a coordinated community response.
* Maintain accurate casework and service records in line with organisational policies.
* Participate in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours cover.
About You
* At least one year’s experience working in domestic abuse services, housing, social care, or with vulnerable clients.
* Strong knowledge of the dynamics and impact of domestic abuse and safeguarding practices.
* Experience of working in a residential/refuge setting or similar environment.
* Ability to remain calm, resilient, and supportive under pressure, maintaining a trauma-informed approach.
* Skilled at building trusting, non-judgemental relationships with women and children who may have complex needs.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage a busy caseload.
* Confident working both independently and as part of a team, seeking guidance when required.
* IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office.
