Job Description:
The service manager is responsible for coordinating staff and resources to ensure high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. They ensure welfare and compliance with standards, legislation, and regulations, promoting values and ethos within the team and home.
The area Service Manager manages and supports managers across 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children of Lynton Community Care, reporting directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Referring, assessing, and developing personalized care and risk management plans in liaison with previous care teams, families, and advocates.
2. Maintaining good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
3. Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
4. Controlling the environment to meet health, safety, and infection control standards, conducting risk assessments, fire checks, and maintaining a safe environment.
5. Working with CIW to understand and adhere to Fundamental Standards, and carrying out statutory notifications as required.
6. Managing legal and statutory documentation, including insurance and enrollment documents.
7. Documenting maintenance issues and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
8. Monitoring and investigating complaints, generating reports, and implementing corrective actions and service improvements.
9. Recruiting, inducting, and training staff, supporting team development.
10. Promoting openness, honesty, and a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
11. Holding regular staff meetings, providing supervision, and supporting staff development.
12. Building positive relationships and effective communication mechanisms with staff.
13. Participating in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and decisions, in consultation with HR if needed.
14. Managing staff scheduling, rotas, absences, and holiday management.
15. Overseeing medication management, including ordering, disposal, and auditing.
16. Managing budgets, petty cash, food shopping, and activity budgets.
17. Safeguarding service users and handling safeguarding issues.
18. Applying for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and working with personal representatives to ensure legal compliance.
19. Being on call out of hours for advice, guidance, and incident attendance.
20. Attending supervision and engaging in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
21. Participating in strategic decision-making and business growth.
22. Performing other duties as assigned by the Director, appropriate to skill and competence.
23. Managing financials and budgets.
24. Writing and auditing behavioral reports and other documentation.
The service manager must possess skills and qualifications to support both adults and children living with learning disabilities.
