ABOUT THE ROLE
We're seeking a Product Owner to join our innovative team. Reporting to the Head of Software and Platform Engineering, you'll be part of a cross-functional team responsible for building and delivering successful software and hardware solutions by defining clear, high-quality requirements understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll develop a deep passion for and understanding of our energy tech domain, with sharp insights into what aligns with our strategy for market leadership and sustainable
growth. You'll excel at diving into multi-disciplinary details and articulating your vision for the prioritised backlog to key business stakeholders, securing their buy-in. We're also looking for someone who can challenge and refine our processes while executing our product roadmap in the fast-evolving energy sector.
The day-to-day stuff:
No two days are the same at Chameleon Technology, so your responsibilities will evolve with our priorities, and you'll need to adapt comfortably (with our full support). But these core elements will keep you at the heart of our mission:
* Understanding the domain: Building strong relationships with energy suppliers, business customers, and consumers to understand and anticipate needs in smart metering and data visualisation.
* Communicating the vision: Providing vision and direction to Agile development teams and stakeholders, helping to ensure we are working towards a shared product vision.
* The way we work: Possessing a strong understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum, playing a proactive role with the appropriate ceremonies.
* Defining the product: Working with product managers to assess value, develop business cases, and outline stories and epics.
* Refining the work: Working with the software team to refine the stories in the backlog, communicating the user needs, supporting story elaboration and defining acceptance criteria.
* Planning the work: Working with the software team and product managers to define milestones that deliver business and customer value, and prioritise the backlog to ensure the work developers are doing now is the right work.
* Representing the user: Reviewing the products and answering questions throughout the development cycle, helping developers to build products that work well for the users.
* Forecasting the work: Use appropriate metrics to estimate and refine delivery times of key milestones, to give the rest of the business the visibility it needs to function effectively.
* Speeding up the work: Playing an active role in removing and mitigating blockers to ensure teams meet goals on time and with quality.
* Releasing the work: Leading product release planning and setting clear expectations for delivering new functionality..
* Reviewing the results: Using evidence-based metrics and user feedback to identify and define improvements in the products, and measure the value delivered.
* Improving the organisation: Identifying processes that aren't working, and working across teams to advocate for and implement solutions that improve how effective and enjoyable our work is.
ABOUT YOU
* Strong commercial instincts.
* Expert at helping engineers understand the product vision, to ensure it guides their day-to-day work.
* Thoughtful, with a good instinct for asking the right questions that lead to well-defined work.
* Excellent, empathetic communicator, able to manage expectations of multiple stakeholders.
* A passion for quality and good testing.
* Experience owning APIs as part of the product, for example as part of a SaaS offering, or where APIs support other teams in the organisation.
* Good at combining input from commercial and technical teams to break work down into milestones that quickly deliver value to customers and the business.
* Able to work in an Agile environment, and a commitment to the continuous improvement of that environment, with the rest of the team.
* Able to build supplier/3rd-party relationships, such as with energy providers and hardware manufacturers, and use these to improve the quality and utility of products..
* Experience using data and market insights to inform decisions and direction, particularly in sustainable energy trends.
* Experience tracking product success via KPIs and other value metrics.
* Strong communication and presentation skills. Good at deciding the story you want to tell, and fitting it to the audience.
* Familiar with Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps)
And it would be really great if you had:
* Experience working in a scale-up company in the energy or smart tech sector, thriving in innovation.
* Experience working in organisations where software, firmware and hardware teams work closely together.
* Domain knowledge in smart/IoT devices or energy metering.
* Experience with data analytics tools or IoT platforms.
