The Role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support pupils with challenging behaviour, helping them to achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCo, and support staff to create a positive and structured environment conducive to learning and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide one-to-one and group support: Assist pupils with challenging behaviour in managing their emotions and behaviour, ensuring they are engaged in their learning.
2. Implement behaviour management strategies: Work with the SENCo and teaching staff to develop and implement effective behaviour management plans.
3. Support academic progress: Help pupils understand and engage with the curriculum, providing tailored support where necessary.
4. Foster a safe learning environment: Ensure the classroom remains a safe and supportive space for all pupils.
5. Collaborate with staff and parents: Maintain open and effective communication with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure consistent support for each pupil.
6. Assist with personal care needs: Where necessary, provide personal care support to pupils, always maintaining their dignity and comfort.
About You
1. Experience: Previous experience working with children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour is essential.
2. Qualifications: A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is desirable but not essential.
3. Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
4. Knowledge: Understanding of various behaviour management techniques and an awareness of SEN practices.
5. Attitude: A positive, empathetic approach to working with children and a commitment to their development and wellbeing.
