Offer description

The Finance team at Oxford Policy Management is currently seeking an Accountant on a 6 month basis. The position will be located in Oxford with the ability to work remotely. Support the Group Finance function in completing a one-off programme of balance sheet reconciliation and strengthening financial control across multiple group entities following the implementation of a new finance system. The role will also support the review of overseas statutory accounts and preparation for the 31 March 2026 group year-end audit. We are an international development consultancy working to improve lives through sustainable policy change in low- and middle-income countries. Our vision is for fair public policy that benefits both people and the planet. Through our global network of offices, we work in partnership with national stakeholders and decision makers to research, design, implement and evaluate impactful public policy. We draw on our local and international sector experts to provide the very best evidence-based support. We deliver projects with expert knowledge and experience, and can be relied upon for excellence in all aspects of project delivery. We work collaboratively, with ambition, to help deliver impactful public policy that will bring about lasting change. Balance sheet control and reconciliation Following the implementation of a new finance system, a programme of work has been underway to rebuild and strengthen balance sheet reconciliations across the group. A reconciliation framework has now been established, and significant progress has been made across a number of entities. However, due to the number of group entities and balance sheet accounts involved, there remains a one-off volume of work required to bring all accounts to a fully reconciled position as part of the 31 March 2026 year end process. Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for the UK entity and overseas group entities. For some accounts this will involve reconstructing reconciliations from underlying transaction downloads (including migrated transactions from the previous finance system) and identifying reconciling items. Investigate historic unreconciled balances, identify root causes, and prepare adjustment journals where required to bring accounts to a reconciled position. Liaise with overseas finance managers to obtain explanations and supporting information for balances recorded in local ledgers. Intercompany and consolidation support Review branch loan balances and assess opportunities to clear balances Reconciliation of intercompany income and intercompany costs between group entities Overseas entity reporting review Assist with the review of overseas entity statutory financial statements prepared by local external accountants or auditors. This will include reviewing how the financial statements have been derived and reconciling balances to the group finance system (Microsoft Dynamics 365), identifying and resolving differences where local accounting records are maintained alongside the group ledger. Ensure any audit adjustments identified through the statutory accounts process are appropriately reflected in the group finance system and that the underlying causes of adjustments are addressed. Preparation for the 31 March 2026 group year-end audit Prepare audit-ready supporting schedules for key balance sheet accounts and assist with responding to audit queries. Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or equivalent experience. Strong financial accounting and balance sheet reconciliation experience. Experience working with multi-entity or international groups. Excellent Excel skills and strong attention to detail. Experience working in a project-based organisation or with project accounting structures would be advantageous. Understanding of accounting issues such as project accruals, deferred income, and work-in-progress balances. Ability to investigate complex accounting issues Experience with ERP systems (experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 desirable but not essential). Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently. We enable colleagues’ capacity to grow professionally through enhanced learning resources, opportunities to work cross functionally, and space to engage with a range of internal and external industry events. Our non-hierarchical culture values support, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and a rich diversity of perspectives. We provide an exceptionally generous annual leave entitlement and a hybrid working model to encourage and enable healthy work/life balance. Wellbeing resources including a global Employee Assistance Programme and access to the UnMind app. Competitive salary and contributory pension scheme. We are strengthened by the diversity of colleagues across our global business and are committed to being an equal opportunities employer, promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace for all. Our recruitment practices reflect our ambition to make the international development sector more inclusive and firm belief that our work delivers the best outcomes when we actively include a diversity of perspectives and experiences.
