We are looking for an experienced CTO Freelance to support us primarily on Tech Due Diligence missions for Private Equity firms and portfolio companies. You’ll act as a senior expert, able to quickly assess the maturity, scalability, and risks of tech stacks and teams, and provide clear, actionable recommendations to investors.
You may also occasionally contribute to tech advisory missions on transformation, replatforming, or organization design—depending on your profile and availability.
Your Mission
* Lead or co-lead Tech Due Diligences (buy-side / vendor) with clear analysis of:
o Tech architecture & scalability
o Codebase quality (spot checks or via devs)
o Infrastructure & DevOps maturity
o Tech team structure, roles & seniority
o Delivery performance, rituals & KPIs
o Security, compliance & technical debt
* Interact with CTOs, CPTOs, Engineering Managers, and tech teams during DD interviews
* Write and present sharp executive reports for investors with key red flags & mitigation plans
* Optionally support internal playbook development (scorecards, benchmarks, doc templates)
* Optionally support value creation plans or transformation initiatives post-deal
* 10+ years of experience in tech leadership (CTO, VP Engineering, CPTO...)
* Solid experience in Tech Due Diligence, ideally for PE/VC or M&A contexts
* Deep understanding of software architecture, infrastructure, cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
* Familiarity with modern DevOps, CI/CD, observability, data stack, and security practices
* Strong ability to assess tech teams and delivery capabilities, beyond code
* Structured thinker with clear and concise writing / reporting skills (PowerPoint / Notion / Word)
* Fluent in English (French is a plus)
