About the company
A well-performing packaging business in the Wakefield area that has recently invested in its plant and equipment is looking to appoint an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor. The site is stable, quality-focused and continuing to invest in production improvements — this is a great opportunity for an experienced electrical specialist who wants to combine hands-on engineering with people leadership.
The role
As the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor you will split your time between practical electrical work on lines and supervising a small team of multiskilled engineers/technicians. You’ll be the technical go-to for electrical fault-finding, statutory compliance and overseeing electrical improvement work, while coaching and developing your team to deliver reliable, safe production.
Key responsibilities
* Supervise, coach and schedule a team of electrical/multi-skilled engineers; manage day-to-day tasks and shift handovers.
* Carry out hands-on electrical fault finding and repairs across processing and packaging equipment (motors, drives, sensors, control panels, PLC I/O).
* Own the electrical strategy for the site alongside the Engineering Manager — PPM planning, spares management and continuous improvement.
* Ensure compliance with statutory electrical inspections, isolation procedures and safe systems of work; support permit-to-work processes.
* Provide technical support for capital projects and improvement works; work closely with Production and Engineering to reduce downtime and improve OEE.
* Participate in a 1-in-4 weeks on-call rota to support out-of-hours electrical incidents.
What we’re looking for
* Qualified Electrical Engineer (time-served apprenticeship / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent). HNC/HND desirable.
* Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally packaging or FMCG, with strong electrical fault-finding skills.
* Confident with PLC I/O diagnostics, drives/VSDs, control panels and wiring schematics; ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
* Experience supervising or leading a small engineering team; strong communicator and coach.
* Good understanding of statutory electrical inspections, safe isolation, and health & safety procedures.
