Job overview
NHS England has developed a programme to establish Rapid Diagnostic Centres (RDCs) to promote earlier diagnosis or to rule out cancer.
This role will work independently under the guidance of the Rapid Diagnostic Leads to support patients on the Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS) pathway. The role involves providing specialist advice to professionals about individuals with symptoms that could indicate cancer, and communicating with healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care.
The post holder will deliver a professional, comprehensive, and efficient service in line with RDS guidance. They will access resources and services to facilitate a quicker and more effective diagnosis of cancer or benign disease. Additionally, the role acts as a point of contact for patients, supporting them through complex issues.
Main duties
* Provide a consistent point of contact, offering advice, support, and information from referral to diagnosis or when assigned a Cancer Nurse Specialist.
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based care programs.
* Collaborate with clinical colleagues to develop services and ensure high-quality care.
* Triage complex referrals requiring specialist management to appropriate staff.
* Manage an agreed patient caseload, using clinical judgment for uncertain diagnoses.
* Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests and investigations.
* Identify, assess, and triage patients, ensuring smooth transition to other services.
* Coordinate with Multi Diagnostic Clinic teams for appointments and reviews.
