Castlebrae and Portobello Learning Community

Salary: £34, - £52, (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 35 per week

The Castlebrae/Portobello Learning Community is fully committed to the inclusion of children and young people with Additional Support Needs. Around 45% of learners across the Learning Community have Additional Support Needs.

Castlebrae and Portobello High Schools are six-year comprehensives based in the East of Edinburgh. Castlebrae has a roll of young people drawn from mainly 3 associate primary schools - Newcraighall, Castleview, Niddriemill. Portobello has a roll of young people, drawn mainly from 5 associate primary schools - Brunstane, Duddingston, Parsons Green, Royal High and Towerbank.

Each school enjoys a very high standard of accommodation with facilities used extensively by the community. There is an excellent extra-curricular programme within both schools, offering an extensive array of wider achievement opportunities. Both schools also have positive links with parents and is committed to building up partnerships with local businesses and the community

As a valued member of the Learning Community Inclusion Team, you will work with school leaders, class and subject teachers, Support for Learning and Pupil Support staff to strengthen school capacity to meet the needs of children and young people with Additional Support Needs through strong universal provision and appropriate targeted support. Key areas for this work are learning, teaching and assessment; personalised support; transitions; partnerships (particularly with parents and carers); ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion.

This role will involve working with learners with a range of additional support needs from ages 3-18.

We are looking for an ASL teacher who is committed to inclusion and improving outcomes for learners with Additional Support Needs and who has:

1. Appropriate specialist knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with Additional Support Needs using inclusive approaches and pedagogy.
2. Knowledge and understanding of key legislation and guidance in relation to inclusion, GIRFEC and wellbeing.
3. Understanding of good practice and evidence base in the field of inclusion.
4. The ability to work collaboratively with a range of practitioners to create high quality inclusive learning environments.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
