We are seeking a technician to join a diverse research group studying bacterial interactions within the human microbiome. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers to investigate the microbes and pathogens within the cystic fibrosis lung microbiome. This project is funded by a Lister Fellowship. The post holder will be part of the Whelan lab and MERMan group based in the Michael Smith building.
Responsibilities
Work alongside a research assistant to use microbial culture to grow bacteria present in clinical sputum samples, isolate the DNA of these organisms, and prepare the DNA for sequencing via molecular biological techniques. Collaborate closely with other members of the Whelan lab group and collaborators at Wythenshawe Hospital. Manage laboratory facilities, including overseeing compliance with relevant regulations.
