Overview
JOB DESCRIPTION - CARE WORKER. The duties of a domiciliary care worker range from routine household tasks to providing personal care, administering medication and carrying out simple health care tasks. Care workers are expected to follow the duties set out in the written care plan drawn up by the Company with the commissioner and/or the Service User (or their representative(s). Care workers must adhere to the Health & Safety at Work policy of the Company and work strictly within the outcomes of risk assessments made to ensure their safety and that of the Service User.
Responsibilities
* Provide personal care to the Service User(s) in accordance with written guidance set out in the Care Plan.
* Assist with morning and evening routines, including:
o Showering
o Bathing
o Washing hair
o Assisting in the toilet
o Assistance with continence aids
o Assistance with walking and transferring
o Foot care (but not cutting toenails)
o Manicuring
* Assist with medication and health-related activities, including:
o Assistance with pills from a pre-filled compliance aid prepared by a pharmacist
o Assistance with liquid medicine using measuring cup supplied by the pharmacist
o Assistance with creams for the skin
o Assistance with nebulisers, inhalers and oxygen
o Assistance with stoma bags
o Assistance with slings, neck braces or knee supports
o Assistance with support stockings
o Assistance with incontinence aids (pads and knickers)
o Assistance with catheter care
o Recording any assistance on a medication chart or in the daily log
o Reporting any health change to the Manager
o Collecting prescriptions from the Pharmacist
* Assist Service User(s) to enjoy a healthy and appropriate diet that they prefer, including:
o Feeding or assisting with feeding
o Menu planning
o Shopping
o Preparing snacks and drinks
o Cooking and preparing light meals
o Washing up
* Assist with finances in accordance with the agreed care plan and the Company’s Finance Policy, including:
o Paying bills
o Visiting the Post Office or Bank
o Recording all financial assistance in the log kept in the Service User Guide
* Assist with general cleaning and domestic upkeep, including:
o Cleaning, dusting and polishing
o Laundry (including incontinence laundry)
o Ironing
o Managing disposal of refuse in accordance with Local Authority requirements
* Social Care duties:
o Assisting in rehabilitative regimes
o Escorting to medical or social appointments
o Companionship
o Reading and writing letters
* General duties:
o Follow the Care Plan of duties agreed by the Company
o Complete time sheets and other time recording logs
o Record details of work performed in the daily log and report changes to the Manager
o Deal with emergencies in accordance with Company policy
o Participate in quality assurance programmes and training
o Attend supervision meetings, annual appraisals, and use protective clothing as prescribed by the Health and Safety Policy
o Wear the Company Identification Badge and keep it available as per guidelines
o Sign an endorsement of receiving the Company Handbook and Policies and agree to abide by them
o Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager
