Job Reference: SU1902 Governor in Surrey SU1902 – Governor Role Oxshott, Surrey A Russian family living in Oxshott, Surrey are looking for an educated Governor / Educational Mentor for their Russian and English speaking son. We are seeking to appoint a Governor / Educational Mentor for an 8½-year-old bilingual (Russian/English) boy who has been home educated for several years within a structured and well-established framework. They currently engage dedicated tutors for Russian and English, while overseeing the remaining subjects internally. As he has now progressed beyond the early-years support stage, they require a professional who can assume full responsibility for his academic direction, personal development, and daily structure. This is a non-residential position, 3 or 4 days per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. What We Are Looking For We are not seeking a conventional or purely academic profile. Our objective is to appoint a modern, charismatic, and energetic mentor who can make learning dynamic, engaging, and intellectually stimulating. The Role Would Include • Academic Leadership – Taking ownership of core subjects (Mathematics, Science, and Humanities), while coordinating the wider home education programme to ensure he remains academically stretched and ahead of age expectations. • Creative and Contemporary Pedagogy – We strongly value project-based learning and a practical, hands-on approach. Lessons should be varied, stimulating, and curiosity-led, using real-world experiences as an extension of the classroom rather than relying solely on textbooks. • Mentorship and Role Modelling – Someone capable of engaging in thoughtful, intellectually mature conversations, instilling confidence, etiquette, and social awareness, and serving as a strong, active male role model. • Lifestyle and Travel – The role requires flexibility and readiness to travel. The family travels frequently and would expect the Governor to accompany them and integrate educational value into each trip. • Bilingual Environment – While the candidate should be a native British educator, they must feel comfortable working within a bilingual household and collaborating effectively with his existing tutors. In essence, we are looking for an individual who can combine structure, discipline, and academic rigour with a contemporary, relatable approach that resonates with an 8-year-old boy. The boy is intelligent, bright, active, quick, and curious, with a strong personality. He loves animals and reptiles, particularly biology. The Governor should have a teaching/tutoring background or be degree educated.
