Job Description Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a 36-bed acute inpatient mental health service for men and women with enduring mental health problems in Exeter. You’ll work within an established MDT, providing high-quality clinical leadership while contributing to the ongoing strategic development of the service and wider hospital.

Your key responsibilities will be:
Act as Responsible Clinician for an acute adult inpatient ward
Lead clinical decision‑making and manage complex psychiatric cases
Formulate care plans and deliver evidence-based treatments and interventions
Participate in MDT meetings, ward reviews and CPA meetings
Support and supervise Associate Specialist and wider MDT colleagues
Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation
Contribute to clinical governance, audits and ongoing service development
For this role, we’re looking for someone who has:
MRCPsych or recognised equivalent, approved by Royal College of Psychiatrists
CCT/CESR (or equivalent experience) in General Adult Psychiatry desirable
Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility)
Significant experience in acute inpatient or community adult mental health
Strong skills in risk assessment, risk management and independent clinical decision‑making
Candidates without CCT/CESR but with AC status and extensive experience in acute inpatient and working in senior medical/consultant type roles may be considered.
