Consultant Ophthalmologist – Subspecialty Glaucoma


Post Details

Location: Inverclyde Royal Hospital and New Victoria Hospital. Shift pattern: Monday to Friday 9-5.

Contract: 10 PA, including DCC, administrative, and SPA sessions. Possible variations in job plan throughout contract period.

On‑call: 1 in 33 consultant duties for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.


Eligibility

Full GMC registration, licence to practise, eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.

UK-trained doctors should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from interview date.

CESR route doctors only eligible once CESR is awarded.

Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Up to 2 EPA’s may be available for additional outpatient or procedure sessions or management activity.


Core Responsibilities and Skills

* Expertise in the management of glaucoma patients.
* Fellowship training or equivalent postgraduate experience in glaucoma.
* Leadership skills and service development.
* Research and audit, with evidence of publications or presentations specific to glaucoma.
* Teaching and training experience – delivering formal and informal teaching.
* Commitment to education and workforce development.
* Professional attributes: ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, strong organisational skills, willingness to work flexibly to support strategic aims, including developing competence‑based roles for non‑medical staff.


Professional Development

All newly qualified consultants are initially offered a minimum of 1 core supporting professional activity (SPA) covering CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning and management meetings. This will be reviewed within 6 months and revised upward if additional responsibilities are agreed.
