Industrial Electrician – Yorkshire Water
Location: We are currently looking to recruit Industrial Electricians to work across the Yorkshire region in our maintenance department within our Wastewater business area here at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you? This is a mobile worker role; however, your home location will determine the area of Yorkshire that you will be covering.
Work type: Permanent. You’ll be working 37 hours per week. Out of hours, weekend working, and bank holidays will be worked as part of a structured stand-by rota. Once fully trained you will be assessed for working on your own and you will be required to participate in an out of hours standby rota which will include evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts (which will be no more than 1 week in every 4).

Your role
As an Industrial Electrician, you will undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Water’s Electrical and Mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations. This includes mobile working as part of a Maintenance Team to deliver Planned and Reactive maintenance, responding to emergency calls both in and out of hours (on call-out rota). Driving to deliver improved asset reliability through effective decision making.
Where you fit in
As an Industrial Electrician you will be required to work unsupervised in remote geographic locations and be accountable for the completion of planned and reactive electrical tasks within agreed timescales, quality, and cost parameters. You will manage and prioritise your own workload and build and maintain relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners. You will adhere to the Health and Safety policy and standards, actively identifying hazards, providing mitigation, and reporting onto the company hazard database to ensure hazards are removed. You will supervise approved Contract Partners, provide risk assessments and method statements where a permit to work is required. You will use a Toughbook/iPad to capture all work activity and job status in line with workflow processes. You will assist in the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members, and you will install and commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards. You will diagnose and repair faults on systems and plant.
You will pro-actively identify and report follow-on work or areas for enhancement. You will conduct your own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities. The successful candidate will have the ability to specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of day-to-day role.
Responsibilities
* Undertake maintenance of electrical and mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations.
* Deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance; respond to emergency calls; participate in an out-of-hours standby rota.
* Supervise contract partners; prepare risk assessments and method statements where required.
* Record work activity and status using mobile devices; support apprentices and less experienced colleagues.
* Install, commission, and fault-find on plant and equipment to defined standards.
What skills, experience & qualifications you will need
* Essential: recognised Electrical Craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds/ ONC/ BTEC/ NVQ/ HNC/ HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Eng Tech.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than six points) as you will visit sites across the Yorkshire Region.
Desirable qualifications
* IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City and Guilds 2382-18).
* CompEx 1 – 4.
* HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Mandatory experience and capabilities
* Safe isolation to the current IET regulations.
* Time-served industrial electrician with fault finding on control circuits up to PLC.
* IT literate (e.g., MS Office) and able to produce maintenance reports.
* Experience fault finding with industrial motors, starters, 3-phase systems, and LV control circuits.
* Experience working with rotating equipment.
Desirable experience and capabilities
* Experience with pneumatics; ATEX standards; maintaining UPS systems.
* Fault finding on soft start or variable speed drives and actuated valves.
Ideally you will have prior experience as an industrial electrician within the water or wastewater sectors or related utilities, process, or manufacturing sectors. You will have a proven track record of maintaining and repairing 3-phase rotating machinery and associated control systems, a systematic fault-finding approach, and the ability to mentor others where needed.
As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces and must pass medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, Spirometry) to ensure safety in hazardous environments.
