Offer description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Stroke Therapy Teams at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust. This role involves rotations across two hospital sites (Aintree and Broadgreen) covering SEAC, Hyperacute Stroke Unit, Acute/Rehab Stroke Units and Early Supported Discharge community teams. You will support assessment and rehabilitation across the Stroke pathway, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, your named supervisor, and the Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Therapy Management Team.


Responsibilities

* Carry out an initial neurological therapy assessment to identify post‑stroke deficits and clinically reason the need for further assessment and treatment.
* Identify the most appropriate form of ongoing assessment, including functional assessments, seating, upper‑limb interventions and need for splinting, together with standardised cognitive and mood screens.
* Set patient‑centred goals, devise and regularly review treatment plans to achieve these.
* Work closely with the MDT to identify rehabilitation potential and the most appropriate setting for this to occur (e.g., stroke rehab unit or own home).
* Communicate effectively with patients, families and wider organisations to support patients’ recovery and coordinate a safe transfer of care / discharge.
* Effectively manage own caseload, prioritise and delegate to Generic Therapy Assistants.
* Identify all necessary equipment to facilitate discharge and complete timely referrals to equipment suppliers.
* Complete clear and concise referrals to other services and coordinate a timely discharge to ensure maintenance of patient flow.
* Ensure compliance with mandatory training and that all trust policies are followed.


Qualifications

* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
* HCPC registration.
* Experience working with adults with complex post‑stroke and neurological presentations.
* Evidence of contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants.
* Evidence of participation in audit and evaluation of services.
* Advanced skills required to plan complex and rapid discharges.
* Broad knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy.
* Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to keep accurate, legible patient notes.
* Teaching/presentations at in‑service level.
* Competent IT skills.
* Flexible and open to change.
* Appropriate UK professional registration.
* Vehicle with business cover is advantageous for Early Supported Discharge duties.
