Overview
This is a new consultant post with a 50% commitment to pain and 50% to anaesthesia, with input into the emergency general anaesthetic rota.
Royal Cornwall Hospital offers a comprehensive pain management service across Cornwall, providing outpatient services to St Austell and Penzance as well as at Royal Cornwall Hospital.
The busy acute and chronic pain service provides inpatient and outpatient care and has strong links with palliative care services in Cornwall to support a community-based intrathecal pain service as required. A purpose-built clinic provides space for outpatient work and there are allocated X-ray theatre sessions for more complex procedures. Major procedures such as spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps are undertaken in a dedicated operating theatre session, currently at St Michael’s Hospital. Inpatient beds are available by arrangement.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people, with a workforce of approximately 6,700 staff and a budget of approximately £580 million.
