Application Deadline: Recruitment is ongoing. Please apply as soon as possible as the advert may close once we have sufficient applicants.

Your role:

We are looking for a Graduate Water Resources Consultant for our Water team in Birmingham, joining our 2026 Graduate Programme.

As a Stantec graduate, you will collaborate with your team and wider cohort, developing your civil engineering expertise within an exciting and creative interdisciplinary environment.

The Opportunity

Water resource requirements now and in the future will be significantly impacted by global trends in population growth, climate change, environmental requirements, energy production and agricultural needs. These challenges have meant that Stantec's involvement in UK and Ireland water resources planning has increased substantially in the last decade. Our work in this area includes contributions to numerous Strategic Resource Option (SRO) investigations into regional water transfers in England and Wales, Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs), Drought Plans, and Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) investigations. Challenges in water resources planning remain a key focus for Stantec as we move through 2025, supporting our water company clients through the AMP8 (Asset Management Period) regulatory cycle.

To support this growing workload and our reputation for innovative water supply, environmental, and regulatory solutions for public and private sector clients across the UK, Stantec is looking for a Graduate Water Resources Planner to join the team.

Within our Water Environment team, you will learn to provide technical advice and innovative solutions to water resource investigations, including preparing reports and other deliverables. You and the wider team will collaborate effectively with water companies, regulators (e.g., the Environment Agency, Ofwat, DWI and RAPID), design engineers, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to ensure project success.

You will develop in-depth knowledge of UK and global water resources and drought planning processes. You will gain experience in modelling water resource availability in complex hydrological and hydrogeological systems. You will complete water resource options assessments,, water resource management plans, drought plans, WINEP investigations, catchment management studies, climate change impact assessments, Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments and collect hydrometric data in the field.

About you

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geography or Environmental-related subject, with a keen interest in working in the Water sector, you will be:-
* An adapter: you’re able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
* A Perseverer: you stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
* A focussed individual: you focus on what matters, tuning out distractions to perform effectively in any situation.
* An Eager Learner: you learn from your experiences and the world around you, using this knowledge to anticipate how situations may unfold.
* A Collaborator: you work effectively with lots of different people, considering other’s perspectives to shape better outcomes.

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.

What we can offer you:
* A competitive salary
* Private medical insurance
* A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
* Permanent employment contract to demonstrate our commitment to your long-term career at Stantec
* Professional progression plan, supporting you to gain professional chartership
