We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Lewes, a category B remand prison based in Lewes, East Sussex. HMP Lewes has a fast paced healthcare environment delivering care to males aged 18‑65 years with a range of needs including substance misuse and long term conditions. In this role you will work closely with senior nurses to deliver reception care, including first‑night prescribing, discharge prescribing, urgent follow‑up for duty doctors and substance misuse prescribing.
About The Role
Our General Practitioners are highly valued and well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community, providing diverse clinical responsibilities that allow further development of knowledge in areas you wouldn’t normally experience within a practice or an A&E environment.
Hours
* Tuesday 6pm‑10pm
* Wednesday 6pm‑10pm
* Friday 6pm‑10pm & alternate Saturday 2‑6pm
Salary
This is a bank role offering an hourly rate of £98.70.

What you’ll be doing
* Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t normally experience within a practice or an A&E environment.
* Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients, making timely decisions regarding future management.
* Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team on site, as well as involve patients in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Requirements
Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK; due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
* MBChB or MBBS
* Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
* Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
* Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
* RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or readiness to undertake these qualifications
