The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK and home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art Critical Care, Theatre and Diagnostic Services. The Royal Hospital for Children is adjoined to the adult hospital and has 244 paediatric beds with a further 12 neonatal beds in the maternity unit. This hospital provides a large number of specialist services to the West of Scotland and the wider population of Scotland in addition to a full range of secondary care services including cardiology and cardiac surgery, renal and bone marrow transplantation. For a number of these services, the children’s hospital is recognised as the sole provider in Scotland.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services within each specialty ensuring the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients. You will be an integral member of the pharmacy team working in the main pharmacy department and at ward level liaising closely with the wider multidisciplinary team. We have a number of near patient dispensing areas in the Adult and Children’s hospitals that you will have the opportunity to work in on a rotational basis.

The post holder will contribute to the ongoing redesign of pharmacy services and provide dispensing services including: dispensing discharge prescriptions at ward level, providing ward top up services and working as part of the multidisciplinary team both at ward level and in the dispensary. The successful candidate will undertake an SVQ in Pharmacy Services Group Award (at SCQF level 6) as per the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) requirements for the education and training of pharmacy support staff. They will also complete a comprehensive on the job training programme which lasts on average 18 months to be fully proficient within the pharmacy support worker role. Vacancy Request Form (VRF) Approved January 2024 Page 3 of 9 The post will rotate within Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children working 37 hours per week. You will participate on the 10.30-6.30 shift pattern rota and also work weekends and Public Holidays on a rota basis.

A proficient level of general education at National 5/Standard Grade level or above is essential. Proficient IT skills including typing and knowledge of Microsoft office packages (word, excel), email systems (outlook) is essential Experience in using stock control systems is desirable along with the ability to plan and organise workload to meet demanding needs of the service. Previous experience in healthcare/ pharmacy or customer facing role.
