Locum Consultant in General Surgery

This is a fixed term appointment until 28th November 2026 for a General Surgical consultant to join the Gastrointestinal and General Surgery services within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The focus of the post will be general surgery with a wider general surgical experience. Experience in Gall bladder surgery/ benign colorectal surgery/JAG accreditation in upper and/or lower endoscopy will support the application.
Main duties of the job
You will join the GI and General Surgical team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which currently consists of 14 consultants – nine colorectal surgeons, four upper GI and bariatric surgeons and one upper GI surgeon. All team members carry out general surgery and participate in the general on call rota.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* FRCS/FRCS (General Surgery) or equivalent
* Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
* You must be on the specialist register for General Surgery or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
Experience and Achievements
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of General & Benign Upper GI Surgery.
* Must have JAG accreditation for Upper GI endoscopy (at the time of commencement in post).
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within the specialty
* Wide based experience in General Surgery
* Understanding current issues within General Surgery and the future direction of the specialty
* Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
* Attendance at a recognised management course
* Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and training
* Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff.
* Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
* Training in clinical and educational supervision
* Attendance at a teaching course
