Overview
Technical Sales Manager - Marine. Senior Sales Manager, Technical Sales Manager, or Business Development Manager or similar. Working closely with the Managing Director of an SME technology business, you will be responsible for the sales and marketing function and for developing the sales strategy.
The role is with a well-established, highly successful and profitable market leader in its niche industry. 90% of business comes from existing customers, with an excellent reputation. The approach is consultative, relationship‑based, and solutions‑driven; some knowledge or exposure to electronics, communications systems, electrical engineering or related areas is advantageous. The role involves selling into the Defence and Marine industries, based from Southampton with some travel across the UK to customer sites (not extensive). Salary guidance: £55,000 – £65,000 (to be defined). We are recruiting for a Sales Manager to oversee the Sales & Marketing function within an established SME that provides navigation and communication systems to naval units.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and manage the Sales & Marketing function in partnership with the Managing Director to develop and implement the sales strategy.
* Develop new business through existing customer accounts and win new customers in new markets.
* Maintain strong customer relationships and act as a primary point of contact for key clients in the Defence and Marine sectors.
* Represent the company in a consultative, solutions-based sales approach with exposure to electronics or communication systems used in naval units (navigation systems, CCTV, radar, etc.).
* Travel within the UK as required; role is predominantly based in Southampton or surrounding areas.
* Support opportunities for progression toward senior leadership or director-level responsibilities.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experienced sales professional (e.g., Senior Sales Manager, Technical Sales Manager, Sales Engineer, or Business Development Manager) capable of leading the sales function without direct team management responsibilities.
* Ideally prior experience in Defence or Marine sectors and familiarity with electronics or communication systems used in naval units. Depth of experience in all areas is not required; development support is available.
* Based within a commutable distance of Southampton; some travel is required.
* Aspiring for a step up into senior leadership or director-level positions with potential to influence strategy and growth.
* SME mindset with an agile, varied role.
* Any engineering or technical knowledge is beneficial.
