MMP Consultancy is seeking a Maintenance & Repairs Officer / Maintenance Surveyor to join a Local Authority based in Surrey, working within their Social Housing team. This is a 6-month contract subject to extension with a 37-hour working week on £40ph umbrella inside of IR35. Flexible working is available.
Working as part of a team responsible for ensuring our homes are safe, compliant and affordable, the successful candidate will carry out a wide range of duties - from inspecting repair works to coordinating contractors, and helping the client maintain and improve their housing assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect, allocate, and supervise repairs - both in-house and via contractors
Undertake pre, in-progress, post, and void inspections, determining effective solutions and authorising completed works
Work with colleagues to manage tenancy breaches and maintain estate environments
Liaise with contractors and internal teams to ensure works are coordinated and efficient
Support performance monitoring and implement improvements where needed
Participate in out-of-hours standby rota (if required)
Carry out health and safety inspections, including asbestos and other compliance checks
Promote best practice and customer satisfaction throughout the serviceRequirements:
Has strong experience in building maintenance, property inspections, and managing repairs
Understands building construction, defects, and cost-effective solutions
Is confident liaising with tenants, contractors and colleagues to ensure a seamless service
Has excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
Is committed to providing excellent customer care and delivering services to a high standard
Sound working knowledge of housing maintenance and building standards
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and maintenance ordering systems
Ability to travel within the borough (Essential Car User - full UK driving licence required)
Willingness to participate in emergency planning and election duties as required
HNC/HND in Building Construction or equivalent NVQ
Experience of working with Schedule of Rates, Keystone, or similar asset systems
Understanding of vulnerable tenants' needs
Experience in managing small works programmes or DLOs
