NY Highways is looking for a Highways Operative to join our teams based from Seamer Carr or Whitby, working across the stunning East Coast and surrounding rural areas of North Yorkshire.
This is a great opportunity to join the business at an entry level, receive full training and qualifications and progress your career within highways maintenance.
What you’ll be doing
As part of a supportive, experienced team, you’ll help maintain and improve the local highway network, carrying out a wide range of routine and seasonal works, including:
* General highway maintenance such as site clearance, verge works and sign cleaning
* Excavating holes and trenches and assisting with drainage and minor repairs
* Supporting traffic management and safe working practices on site
* Operating highways plant, tools and equipment (full training provided)
* Using handheld devices to record work and defects
* Supporting winter maintenance activities, including snow clearance and gritting operations
You’ll also take part in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota for emergencies and potentially winter maintenance — an important role that helps keep communities moving in all conditions.
This is a hands‑on, outdoor role, working in all weathers. Full PPE and outdoor clothing is provided.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who:

* Can work well as part of a team
* Takes health and safety seriously
* Is willing to learn new skills and gain qualifications
* Is flexible and able to take part in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota
Experience in highways or construction is helpful but not essential.
