Job summary
This post requiresthe holder to have an excellent understanding of and identification with theethos of the Practice and to demonstrate this in their professional behaviourand their dealings with the public. The post holder is directly responsible tothe Practice Manager for all organisational and administrative issues and thePartners for all clinical issues. The post-holder will provide personal medicalservices, managing a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in aprimary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registeredand temporary patients.

Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contractand additional enhanced services where appropriate
In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home,checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperworkand correspondence in a timely fashion
In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal dutiesand responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To record clear and contemporaneous computer basedconsultation notes to agreed standards using Systm One
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated andundiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice diseasemanagement protocols, developing care plans for health
Providing counselling and health education
Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring toother care providers as appropriate
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collecting data for audit purposes
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions(avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (orgenerically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

Monitoring practice facilities and equipment inrelation to infection control, ensuring that proper use is made of handcleansing facilities, wipes etc., and that these are sufficient to ensure agood clinical working environment.

Using appropriate infection control procedures,maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free fromhazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed or escalationto responsible management

Essential
1. Post graduate qualification in General Practice MRCGP/MRCP
2. Completion of GP vocational Training
3. Full registration with GMC and a recognised medical defence organisation
4. If appointed to post, the SGP must also be registered and approved on the Medical Performers List
5. Pre-employment checks all SGPs will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to being approved to join the Medical Performers list
