Senior Baseband Engineer | Up to £85,000 | Full-time, Onsite | North Cambridge
We are recruiting for a market leader in critical communications, delivering high‑quality products to mission‑critical clients such as police, paramedics, sea rescue, major airports, large mining facilities and utilities or oil and gas plants in hazardous environments.
Overview
The Senior Baseband Engineer will play a key role in the design and development of TETRA/Broadband radio equipment, accessories, tools and services for our customers.
Responsibilities
* Designing intrinsic safety (IS) circuitry for ATEX certified products.
* Developing advanced microprocessor‑based systems, integrating sensors (accelerometers, magnetometers, proximity detectors, gyroscopes, and barometers) for mission‑critical functionality.
* Designing high‑efficiency, low‑power power supply architectures for robust performance in challenging environments.
* Creating and validating audio amplifier designs up to 10 W, optimising for clarity, efficiency, and reliability.
* Conducting design verification and system‑level testing, including EMC validation, to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
* Producing high‑quality engineering documentation, including functional specifications, detailed design descriptions, and supporting artefacts for modules and complete product assemblies.
Key Skills Needed
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience demonstrating strong technical capability.
* Proven experience developing products for ATEX‑certified environments, with a solid understanding of intrinsic safety principles and compliance pathways.
* Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and structured technical documentation.
* Expertise in microprocessor system design, including power‑supply requirements, low‑power architectures, and power‑saving strategies.
* Proficiency with key serial communication interfaces, including I²S, I²C, UART, and USB (USB 3.0 experience considered especially valuable).
Location & Benefits
Full‑time, onsite (37‑hour work week) at the North Cambridge office. The site offers substantial parking and a shuttle service to Cambridge North train station.
Salary: £65,000–£85,000 (DOE), plus benefits.
