We are seeking a passionate and experienced SENCO to join our dedicated team on a part-time basis. This is a vital role within the school, ensuring the highest quality of provision for our learners with additional needs.
Role Overview
The SENCO will be responsible for leading the school's special educational needs provision. You will coordinate support across the school, working closely with teachers, support staff, external agencies, and families to create inclusive and personalised learning plans that remove barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the day-to-day operation of SEN provision in the school
* Work with staff to identify students with SEN/SEMH and ensure appropriate assessments are carried out
* Develop and review individual learning plans (EHCPs, IEPs) and ensure they are implemented effectively
* Liaise with parents/carers, local authorities, therapists, and other professionals to ensure cohesive support
* Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant independent school requirements
* Provide CPD and training to staff around SEN, SEMH, and inclusive practice
* Support transition planning for new students and those moving on to other settings
* Monitor and report on the effectiveness of SEN provision and interventions
* Lead and contribute to multi-agency meetings (e.g. EHCP reviews, TAC/TAF meetings)
* Keep up to date with current research and best practice in SEND and SEMH provision
Person Specification
Essential:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete)
* Proven experience working with students with SEMH and complex needs
* Knowledge of current SEND legislation and best practice
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
* High levels of emotional intelligence, resilience, and empathy
* Full UK Driving License
Desirable:
* Experience working in an SEMH, therapeutic or alternative provision setting
* Experience writing and reviewing EHCPs
* Knowledge of trauma-informed and attachment-aware practices
* Experience working with external agencies and local authorities
