Assist in the set up and smooth running of events, activities and days out for siblings.
Key activities:
* To help set up on hospice event days (this may include moving of boxes or furniture if you’re able to)
* To aid and support the staff in the running of Sibling Days or Sibz Plus
* Support the children during the day in activities such as crafts and sports
* To help with refreshments throughout the day as required
* Listen and observe the child/children at all times, seeking the aid of staff member if any additional help or assistance is required
Personal qualities/attributes/knowledge:
* Experience of working with children/young people
* Friendly and enthusiastic
* Flexible
* Committed and reliable
* To be able to work with individuals as well as part of a team
* Non-judgmental
* Awareness of loss and bereavement desirable
* The ability to work on own initiative, if necessary
* Able to work confidentially and within boundaries and have a good awareness of safeguarding
Supervision and induction:
* You will receive an induction and ongoing supervision from the Groups and Events Coordinator and Play Specialist.
Recruitment process:
* Application form, informal interview, enhanced DBS and two references.
* Mandatory training is required before starting, with some elements needing annual refreshers (e.g. safeguarding).
Time commitment:
* We typically run around six or seven Sibling Groups each year during school holidays (Easter, summer, Christmas, and half terms), usually from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Volunteers are asked to arrive a little early and stay for a short debrief after the children leave.
* In addition, we host around five or six Sibz Plus events annually, which take place in the evenings or on weekends.
* While these are the opportunities available, you don’t need to commit to every session – we welcome volunteers who can support us as and when they’re available. All dates are shared in advance to help with planning.
