The Instrument Technical Support will report to the Instrument Engineer and work across both Central and Windscale Labs, providing frontline technical support to the Infrastructure Compliance Engineering team. The role involves delivering expertise in all Instrument Systems, including Radiometrics, equipment reliability, configuration management, or other specialized subject areas to meet the organization’s multifaceted needs.
Main Responsibilities
1. Develop pragmatic, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions that meet organizational objectives cost-effectively.
2. Support maintenance activities by implementing and maintaining the Technical Basis of Maintenance (TBoM) process across both facilities, and assist with planning complex maintenance based on insight and equipment experience.
3. Ensure all maintenance tasks are clearly briefed, understood, and performed safely and on schedule to ensure safe operation of the facility.
4. Comply with legislative, regulatory, and company procedures and standards, e.g., safety, quality, risk, security.
5. Ensure work delivery complies with all site requirements, and plant and personnel operate within safety parameters.
6. Assist in producing Plant Modification Proposals, Temporary Modifications, and other compliance documents.
7. Support installation, modifications, and commissioning of equipment, including identifying and delivering plant and process improvements.
8. Be nominated on the Facilities PES systems, undertake intervention duties including software modifications, uploads/downloads, startup, and shutdown.
9. Produce Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) for maintenance or breakdown tasks.
10. Participate in forums to stay abreast of best practices and share learning across facilities.
Essential Criteria
* Electrical and Instrument Apprenticeship, minimum HNC qualification, or relevant experience in lieu.
* Knowledge and experience of Radiometrics and other Instrumentation and Control Systems, including maintenance and operational requirements.
* Strong communication skills for engaging with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
* Ability to make conservative decisions under pressure.
* Self-motivated, energetic, resilient.
* Ability to interface technically with Design and Capability teams.
* Appointed as SSOW Originator and Task Supervisor with Sub-Contractor Supervisor.
* Qualified Person (IRR2017) and Nominated Person (Electrical - Part A).
* Ability to obtain DV security clearance.
Desirable Criteria
* Sealed Radioactive Source handling training.
* IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
* Knowledge of nuclear safety and security requirements.
* Supervisory experience in nuclear operations.
* Knowledge of nuclear safety mechanisms, safety-related equipment, and safety features.
