H&J Martin Construction (part of the Lagan Specialist Contracting Group) is now recruiting for a Site Engineer Job Role:Site Engineer Company:H&J Martin Construction Ltd Job Type:Full-time - Permanent Location:Northern Ireland Reporting to: Contracts Manager Who We Are H&J Martin Construction is one of Irelands longest standing and most successful Building Contractors. We have successfully contributed to the Built Heritage of Ireland, with the delivery of Iconic buildings such as the City Hall in Belfast, the Slieve Donard Hotel in County Down and Arnotts Department store in Dublin. Our contribution to Iconic sites has continued in recent times with the ongoing Development of the famous Kings Hall site in Belfast. Role Overview As a Site Engineer you will be required to work effectively as part of the H&J Martin Construction team and to work collaboratively with all other stakeholders, including clients, statutory authorities, subcontractors and other internal departments. What you'll do The following reflect the main tasks associated with your position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive: Site Activities Setting out activities from commencement to completion, including but not limited to frameworks, groundworks, drainage, and beams Assist in planning, supervising and inspecting of temporary works, ensuring safety and compliance Accurately interpreting construction drawings and specifications, and taking ownership in the implementation of Engineering Controls Maintenance of all business engineering assets, including dumpy and laser levels, and Total stations. Identify potential risks and defects early, ensuring these are escalated appropriately in a timely manner Utilise technology and systems effectively, to enhance delivery of our projects and achieve goals Support with project handover and client walk throughs at projection completion Where required, support with reporting and presenting on progress and costs Involvement in ordering, monitoring and recording of materials, inventory, tools and plant Health & Safety and Compliance Implement and ensure compliance with Health & Safety Regulations, monitoring and recording health and safety activities as required Contribute to preparation and organisation of the programme for work, including resource allocation, permits, risk assessments and method statements Lead in the implementation of and monitor Quality Assurance and ensure compliance by the site team and subcontractors. Communication and Collaboration Liaise with clients, internal departments, subcontractors and other key stakeholders to ensure the project develops in line with plans and timeframes, with no compromise in quality and delivery Manage site teams and subcontractors, ensuring written and verbal communication or instructions are clear and understood Carryout informal coaching conversations and toolbox talks where required and provide clear handovers, limiting interruptions to operations General Support with inducting and mentoring new and junior team members Live the company values in what you do, supporting an inclusive environment and great place to work Take an interest in your own development and actively seek to improve how we do things To undertake any other reasonable duties as required What you'll bring Essential Criteria: Foundation Degree level or Higher, in Construction Management or Civil Engineering 3 years experience in a similar role Confident in the use of IT, including construction related software such as AutoCAD Proficient in the use of all relevant surveying equipment, such as Total Stations Full Valid Driving License, that permits driving in the UK/Ireland Understanding of and ability to implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures Desirable Criteria: Experience of supervising/mentoring engineering teams CSR/CSCS Qualification or equivalent Qualified First Aider Qualified or working towards Temporary Works Coordinator qualification Qualified or working towards Appointed Person qualification Key Competencies In addition to the above criteria, the ideal candidate would possess the following attributes; Communication communicate effectively verbally and written, with people in all positions, adapting communication style where required and ensure all information is understood; Planning manage projects and individual timelines simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality, successfully meeting deadlines; Commercial Awareness thoroughly understand the commercial and economic issues facing construction projects, identifying risks and mitigating these appropriately.
