Apex is recognized for disrupting the financial services industry, enabling fintech standouts like Stash, Webull and Betterment. You will join the Belfast arm of the Apex Data cloud engineering team. Joining the team, you will be working alongside experienced software engineers, product managers, and data engineers to design, build, deploy, and maintain services and systems at the core of our cloud native Data Platform and APIs. We build and own services spanning across; APIs & data access, data processing services, tooling & infrastructure for storage & access, machine learning & predictive APIs, and engineering for data analytics. This role offers an opportunity to build cloud services across many of these domains, or specialise as an SME as you establish yourself within Apex. The ideal candidate is one that integrates well within a team and strives for collaborative, modern cloud engineering and team practices, acting as a multiplier for the team day to day. What you might do day to day: Design, develop, test, and maintain microservice service architectures, pipelines, data stores, and other cloud systems for the Apex data layer and APIs. Collaborate and solve complex engineering problems, and solve them for scale with the autonomy to drive technical directions and decisions. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand client & business problems and requirements and work towards solutions. Lead initiatives and projects to design, create, and own scalable cloud services and pipelines for our various data-driven service domains. Manage, optimise, and improve existing cloud data platform solutions for performance, availability, scaling etc. Write self-documenting and well-tested code with an emphasis on sustainable devSecOps practices. Work as a part of a productive development team that puts an emphasis on code quality, peer reviews, documentation and strong modern engineering practices. You should have some of the following: A degree or work experience equivalent in a relevant field Strong proficiency in relevant language(s) for building and deploying cloud (micro)services Experience in cloud engineering, particularly around; microservices, scalability and best practices, design and implementation, data technologies and services. Experience in infrastructure, modern IaC (e.g. Terraform), cloud service deployment and management, and modern CI/CD Experience leading or contributing to architectural design, or an understanding of modern design practices in cloud software. Experience as a lead engineer on projects / initiatives, and experience solving both technical challenges and delivery challenges. Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels to varied stakeholders. A desire to strive for modern collaborative engineering practices and standards, a DevSecOps mindset, and a desire to push good practice within your team and at a wider level to deliver value. Adaptability to learn new technologies/systems/languages as needed day to day. You might have some of the following: Background experience in engineering within a data domain (e.g. data, datasci, machine learning, ml ops, etc) Experience working with modern database systems (e.g. Bigquery, Postgres, Mongo, Redis, etc) Understanding of event driven, real-time data pipelines, data replication, data streaming. Experience in the financial industry is not required, but is a plus.
