We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Principal Mechanical Engineer based at Derby, with hybrid working available.
You will report directly to the Regional Design Lead, and your role will be to provide superior quality engineering design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. The individual must coordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings, taking into account health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards relevant to the contract.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Producing cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and can be effectively constructed and commissioned. This includes considering all associated costs such as design time, materials, erection, and impacts on other disciplines.
2. Utilizing standard practices wherever possible.
3. Maintaining competitiveness.
4. Providing estimates and feedback for the proposals department.
5. Following procedures and processes to ensure the department's ongoing development.
6. Assisting in developing, monitoring, and updating procedures and processes.
7. Coordinating designs with all disciplines involved, both internal and external, to ensure integrated contract execution.
8. Maintaining files and records throughout the contract duration.
9. Ensuring customer satisfaction, recognizing it as key to achieving other objectives.
10. Maintaining a personal development plan.
11. Assisting in supervising and developing staff.
12. Ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
13. Minimizing waste from departmental activities.
14. Considering environmental issues in design.
15. Ensuring designs comply with all health and safety requirements.
Essential qualifications and experience include:
1. Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
2. Experience managing staff in designing relevant water and sewage treatment plant disciplines.
3. Membership of a professional institution or chartered status.
4. Relevant engineering degree.
5. Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
6. Good knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
7. Flexible mindset capable of assimilating large amounts of data.
8. Ability to present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
9. Computer literacy.
10. Valid driving license.
