The team is made up of many specialist staff and volunteers who are passionate about the conservation of the gardens, being one department in a complex operation where the culture is of collaboration and co-operation.The 12-acre garden includes long avenue borders with topiary and trained fruit, ponds and cascade, greenhouse, parterre, courtyards, terraces and orchard and we prioritise skills sharing within the team, so you’ll have a chance to work in all areas. We’ll work with you to plan your career development and do what we can to help you pursue your horticultural interests.You'll take responsibility for the presentation of delegated areas of the garden, working with a team of volunteers to achieve the high horticultural standards required of a formal baroque style garden. You’ll plan the work of the volunteers you manage, getting to know them and playing to their strengths, working alongside them to deliver a diverse range of tasks from weeding, pruning and planting to machinery work such as hedge cutting, mowing lawns and driving tractors. You’ll contribute to the team’s health & safety compliance, maintaining equipment and garden infrastructure. You’ll also work with other departments including Visitor Experience and Facilities to create great experiences in the garden.Day to day you’ll work closely with the rest of the team to ensure a smooth delivery of work in the garden, as well as working alongside rangers and park deer manager to respond to outdoor issues on a 7-day rota.
