Sheridan Maine is recruiting for an established and forward-thinking accountancy practice that is seeking a skilled and motivated Practice Manager to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm. The position offers a clear progression path, with the successful candidate working alongside current directors with a comprehensive handover period of up to 12 months.

This is a hybrid role, combining operational leadership with client interaction, ideal for someone with strong business acumen and a passion for technology and innovation within the accounting sector.

Responsibilities of the Practice Manager include:

1. Provide leadership and mentoring to client managers and team members.
2. Ensure timely preparation and sign-off of financial statements.
3. Oversee business profitability and operational performance.
4. Take responsibility for quality control and compliance processes.
5. Lead on key projects, including the implementation of MTD for ITSA.
6. Manage anti-money laundering protocols.
7. Prepare monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts for the practice.
8. Oversee VAT returns, payroll, and pensions submissions.
9. Attend senior group meetings quarterly to support group-wide strategy.
10. Approve supplier payments and liaise with internal credit control on debt recovery.
11. Manage staff appraisals, salary reviews, holiday approval, and sick leave recording.
12. Coordinate regular CPD training for the team.
13. Collaborate with marketing on client communications.
14. Liaise with IT providers and manage technology-related issues.
15. Oversee billing, WIP reports, and project-based tasks.

The successful Practice Manager will have the following skills and experience:
16. Previous experience in a practice management or senior accountancy role.
17. Strong organisational, mentoring, and leadership skills.
18. Proficient or familiar with accounting and practice management software, including QuickBooks, Xero, Dext, TaxCalc, BrightManager, BrightPay, Inform Direct.
