Job Title: Principal Structural Engineer

What you’ll be doing:
1. Analysis and design of complex steel structures utilizing Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to support submarine build.
2. Utilize your knowledge of specific regulations and requirements beyond those used within BAE Systems, such as LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, and geometric tolerances.
3. Interpretation and approval of analysis and outputs, with competence in computer-based analytical techniques including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
4. Support manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures, modules, and components.
5. Assist in producing concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs that meet contractual requirements, target dates, and budget constraints.
Your skills and experiences:
1. Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent experience.
2. Civil, Mechanical, or Structural engineering background with Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, nearing CEng status.
3. Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
4. Fully proficient in Eurocodes and British Standards.
5. Experience in reviewing and checking design outputs.
6. Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, and knowledge of lifting, handling, and LOLER regulations.
7. Working knowledge of ABAQUS, S-Frame Foran, MathCAD, and Excel.
8. Previous experience in a production environment, preferably in a marine production setting.

The Specialist Structures Department team:
As a Principal Engineer, you will work with a dual-function team of 14 members at various seniority levels, responsible for engineering assessments supporting build processes. Collaboration with design and production teams to produce safety-critical equipment is essential.
Relocation support packages are available across all submarine roles, subject to eligibility.
