The Department of Anaesthetics is friendly and supportive, has achieved ACSA accreditation from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and welcomes innovation and service development that improves patient care. The role will involve working across both sites, with a job plan including ten Programmed Activities and one SPA. The department is aligned with the St George's Hospital teaching programme and the SW Thames School of Anaesthesia training programme, and offers a well‐established simulation teaching programme for suitably qualified applicants. We consistently score highly in the national hip fracture database report and are one of the busiest five units in London, with excellent outcomes in our National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) pathway.
Main Duties of the Job
Principal duties of the post are to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients, including: 1. Always complying with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice'; 2. Ensuring patient confidentiality is always maintained; 3. Undertaking duties as defined within the attached job plan, in agreement with the Clinical Director; 4. Managing the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources and being professionally accountable to the Medical Director; 5. Attending the Trust's corporate induction (or arranged Consultant Induction) upon commencement; 6. Participating in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme; and 7. Being responsible for the clinical management of in‑patients and out‑patients under your care.

Job Responsibilities
Proposed Job Plan: The proposed job plan for this post is attached, will be detailed with the post holder upon appointment and will become operational. Job plans are reviewed annually following an appraisal meeting. The plan will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice, including clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities and external commitments. Additional programmed activities may be offered in line with service needs and Trust objectives, and will be reviewed annually. New consultants receive 0.5 SPA for mentorship and guidance for 12 months on top of the core 1.5 SPA allocation; any additional SPA will be reviewed after 12 months.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT/CESR or equivalent
* ALS training
* EPALS / APLS training
Clinical Experience
* Broad range of experience in delivering anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgery for patients of all ages
Management & Administrative Experience
* Have attended or will attend a recognised management training event upon completion of CCT/CESR
Teaching Experience
* Broad range of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
* Experience supervising junior doctors
Research Experience
* Ability to apply research findings to clinical problems
* Publications in peer review journals
Personal Attributes
* Commitment to continuing professional development
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
