This is an exceptional opportunity to join the Board of a professional membership body founded by Royal Charter in 1880, with the explicit objective of serving the public interest. ICAEW has recently undertaken a comprehensive review of its governance, resulting in the appointment of a new Independent Chair and six new Board members. As the organisation enters its next phase of transformation and potential expansion, ICAEW is now seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director.
The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with excellent strategic and communication skills, accustomed to operating in complex governance environments and navigating issues involving multiple stakeholders. They will bring a collaborative, low-ego approach, combined with the confidence and judgement to provide constructive challenge.
This appointment is particularly seeking candidates with demonstrable problem-solving skills, analytical nous and critical thinking ability; the ICAEW is open to the disciplines through which this skill has been crafted, but insights gained through legal and regulatory roles including General Counsel, Company Secretary or other senior governance and equivalent roles may be advantageous and experience operating at comparable scale and complexity is essential. Experience supporting boards through periods of governance change, organisational transformation or integration would be advantageous. Digital transformation experience and technological confidence is helpful, but deep specialist expertise in this area is not required. Whilst non-executive experience is desirable, it is not essential where equivalent board exposure as an experienced senior executive who has regularly attended and contributed at board level can be demonstrated.
This is a lay Board appointment. Candidates must not be members of ICAEW and must not be chartered accountants. The appointment is for a three year, renewable term.
