The Orthopaedic Oncology Fellow (ST3+) will be part of the Trauma & Orthopaedics resident team, undertaking acute oncology referrals, investigations, and surgical care with consultant supervision.
Key responsibilities
* Receive and process acute oncology referrals as the orthopaedic medicine and clinical point of contact.
* Liaise with oncology teams and coordinate investigations.
* Work patients up for surgery and attend specialist theatre lists.
* Arrange follow‑up and liaise with oncology.
* Make referrals to Stanmore via EPIC referral software and communicate advice to relevant clinicians.
* Attend BOOS calls.
* Participate in the on‑call rota (1 in 11 with registrars) and engage in ward rounds, fracture and elective clinics, and operating lists.
* Independently manage cases in the absence of a supervising consultant, under consultant supervision.
* Contribute to audit, research, and training within the orthopaedic department.
* Coordinate pre‑assessment of elective in‑patients and day‑case surgeries.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration.
* ATLS certification.
* MRCS.
* Basic Surgical Skills (BSS).
* Evidence of CT training progression.
Experience
* CT experience managing trauma and elective orthopaedic patients.
* Recent registrar‑level experience managing trauma and elective orthopaedic patients and on‑call duties.
* Previous medical oncology experience (FY1/2 level).
* Previous surgical oncology experience (CT level).
Applicants must hold appropriate UK professional registration and satisfy the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974/JG requirements. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
