Overview
Test / Quality Engineer role at Asthon A/S. The successful candidate will join a leading manufacturing/engineering company near Oswestry and be responsible for quality inspection, functional testing, and load testing of lifting equipment installed on commercial vehicles. This role supports safety, quality, and performance across installations.
Responsibilities
* Set up lifting equipment (e.g., cranes, hooklifts, skip loaders, tail lifts) for comprehensive testing.
* Verify correct installation procedures against engineering drawings and work instructions.
* Conduct pre-test visual inspections to identify discrepancies or issues.
* Perform detailed functional tests of hydraulics, electrics, controls, and safety interlocks; ensure operational sequences function as designed.
* Execute static and dynamic load tests in line with national and international standards and manufacturer specs; record test data and observations.
* Prepare and issue official test certificates and compliance documentation after successful tests.
* Ensure testing activities comply with QHSE policies and industry regulations; identify and report safety hazards or non-conformances.
* Provide feedback to internal teams to drive continuous improvement in installation processes, product design, and customer experience.
* Maintain accurate test records and support continuous improvement of test processes, equipment, and procedures.
* Support and maintain the planned test schedule and provide technical guidance on safe practices and system usage.
* Collaborate with QHSE and installations teams on risk assessments and lift plans; provide support during periods of low testing activity.
* Identify future test and development needs and work with design/R&D to develop new capabilities.
* Develop professional skills through ongoing training and development commitments.
Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience in hydraulics or automotive engineering) – ESSENTIAL
* Proven experience testing, commissioning, or maintaining hydraulic lifting equipment in the commercial vehicle or plant machinery sectors – ESSENTIAL
* Strong practical experience with complex hydraulic and electrical systems related to lifting equipment – ESSENTIAL
* Technical report writing to a high standard – ESSENTIAL
* Project management skills with ability to plan and deliver test programmes – ESSENTIAL
* Relevant lifting equipment operator licenses (e.g., Abrasive Wheels, Forklift, MEWP, Lorry Loader) – DESIRABLE
* Relevant industry certifications (e.g., LEEA, BFPA) – DESIRABLE

* Employment type: Full-time

* Salary: up to £39,000 per annum, depending on experience
* Location: Oswestry area (commutable from Oswestry, Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Chester, and surrounding areas)
* Typical hours: Monday–Thursday 8:00–16:30; Friday 8:00–13:30 (37 hours per week)
